How to recruit Mercenaries in Diablo 4

1 month ago 67

Getting and hiring Mercenaries is one of the many new core gameplay aspects that came with Diablo 4: Vessel of Hatred. They’re NPCs who will fight alongside you, having their own leveling trees and abilities that can synergize with yours.

If you want to get your own Mercenary, here’s what you must do.

How to unlock Mercenaries in Diablo 4

To unlock Mercenaries in Diablo 4, you will need to progress through the new Vessel of Hatred campaign. When you get far enough to the point where you unlock The Den, you can now get your first Merc. His name is Raheir.

There are three other Mercenaries you can unlock after unlocking Raheir. They are Subo, Aldkin, and Varyana. They will each have their own quests you need to complete.

Upon completing a new Mercenary’s quest, you will then be able to recruit them back at The Den. You can swap between them at any time when you’re there.

You can technically have two Mercs: one is the main one with a full skill tree and the other is more of a quick backup. You’ll have to play around with them to make them more valuable as you progress from the early game to the end game.

Lastly, you can level these Mercs up, giving them new skills and abilities. It’ll be up to you to decide which one best suits your character’s strengths and weaknesses.

Do you need Vessel of Hatred to use Mercenaries?

If you are looking to try out the new Mercenary system in Diablo 4, you will need to have the Vessel of Hatred expansion to be able to use it. This is mostly because you will unlock your first one in the new campaign, so it’s unobtainable without it.

Many players who bought the expansion may even miss this whole system entirely. It’s optional, but it does come with its benefits depending on your playstyle.
