Fortnite Chapter 6, Season 2 is all about breaking into vaults, taking over armored vehicles, and exploring black markets to become the strongest in your matches. There are some fun ways to get overpowered gear this season, but you’ll need thermite to access them.
Where to find Thermite in Fortnite
There are multiple ways to obtain thermite in Fortnite, as highlighted below:
- Purchase from Fortnite’s Black Market
- Chest loot
- Floor loot
- Player elimination drops
The easiest way to get thermite is to purchase it from the Black Market. There are three Black Markets near Crime City, Seaport City, and Magic Mosses. Each thermite costs 50 gold bars, making it inexpensive compared to some of the weapons you can find here.

If you don’t want to spend gold or aren’t anywhere near these three POIs, you can also open chests and search the ground until you find some thermite. It’s a rare-tier item, making it more common than epic and legendary-grade consumables.
Your last option is to eliminate other players until you get some thermite. Although you’re not guaranteed to get thermite each time you defeat someone, there’s a chance they’ll have some on hand, letting you take it and use it yourself.
How to open vaults using Thermite in Fortnite
Once you get some thermite, you can break open Armored Transports, trains, and vaults. When breaking open vaults, you’ll first need to visit any POI that has one. You can find them in the following locations:
- Seaport City
- Crime City
- Masked Meadows
- Lonewolf Lair

Once you approach a vault with some thermite on hand, hover over the blue highlighted spot on the door and interact with it to start the henchmen waves. Alpha guards and other NPCs will storm the area, defending the door against you and any other player who approaches.
From here, it’s just a matter of waiting until the vault’s open and defeating any NPCs or players who fight you. You can shoot or hit any orange glowing weak spots on the door to make the process faster, but it’s still mostly a waiting game. Once the vault opens, you can claim its Dill Bits and rare chests for quick and easy loot.
