How to evolve Haunter in Pokémon Legends: Z-A

Everyone wants to evolve Haunter in Pokémon Legends: Z-A to finally get their beloved Gengar. However, the Gengar evolution line is special, in the sense that it works a little differently when compared to your average Pokémon evolutions. Rather than just leveling up your Haunter, you'll need to complete a couple extra steps.

Here's how to evolve Haunter in Pokémon Legends:Z-A

Haunter can only evolve in Pokémon Legends: Z-A through trading. As long as you have a Haunter and a trading partner, you can evolve your Haunter into a Gengar — no level requirement necessary.Unfortunately, this does mean that you'll need either a Nintendo Switch Online membership or a local trainer who also hasPokémon Legends: Z-A.

To evolve Haunter into Gengar, follow these steps:

1. Press X to open your menu.
2. Select the "Link Play" option.
3. Select the "Link Trade" option.
4. Choose "Nearby Players" if you're trading locally or "Faraway Players" if you're trading via the internet.
5. Enter an 8-digit Link Code to connect to your trade recipient.
6. Select your Haunter and send it off for a trade.

Your Haunter will evolve right after the trade completes, rather than just getting an arrow and prompting a manual evolution.

If you're coordinating with another trainer who also wants a Gengar, you can both trade Haunter to then both receive Gengar. Additionally, you can also trade other Pokémon that evolve through trades, like Kadabra. You will still have to trade back to receive your original Gengar.
