How to cook in Dreaming Isles

7 hours ago 22

Unlike the straightforward cooking mechanics in many cozy games, Dreaming Isles’ version presents a more intricate and challenging system. While it’s simple enough to obtain a kitchen station, mastering the art of cooking in this game is a whole different story.

So, if you’re a little confused about it, like I was, here’s an explainer on how to cook in Dreaming Isles.

Dreaming Isles Cooking guide

The cooking station becomes accessible once you’ve unlocked the farmhouse. To cook in Dreaming Isles, you’ll need to embark on a journey of exploration to find recipe books. The Tuna Steak recipe seems to unlock automatically, but you must repair your boat for better meals. For instance, I found the Swordfish Steak book near Freestad’s dining hall and another for the Cooked Meat dish in Freya’s room.

The books will sometimes provide potions instead of meals, utilizing the same cooking station. This includes using Porcini Mushroom for the Stamina Potion and Venom for a Mana Potion.

Without the recipe books, you won’t be able to make the meal, even if you have the correct ingredients. That means you must go on two searching adventures: one to locate the books and the other to discover their ingredients. Obtain standard resources like meat by defeating various Dreaming Isles enemies. You can get fish by winning the poker-like card game from fishermen or reeling them yourself from the fishing pole. Raw meat drops from birds at Scythe, where you can strike them down with your sword. Additionally, you may receive these resources when targeting Pirate or Global Trade ships.

How to eat meals in Dreaming Isles

Bring the ingredients to a nearby cooking station (your house or villager homes) and start making your desired recipes. To consume your items in Dreaming Isles, equip it to your inventory and press the ‘CTRL’ button.

You’ll gain a unique buff for your character, improving your chances of survivability.

Can you heal from meals in Dreaming Isles?

Typically, in-game meals heal your character, but for Dreaming Isles, this doesn’t seem to be the case. I’ve consumed several dishes, and not once did it boost my health bar. The only way you can heal is through sleeping unless there’s a recipe out there that I’m missing.

You’ll still gain buffs for your characters when consuming meals. In particular, the Cooked Meat gives you a Stamina increase for roughly five minutes. The rest of the dishes provide similar buffs, but I have yet to see one specifically for healing.
