Genki says it’s never seen the Switch 2, mock-ups were based on other leaks

Genki, a peripheral manufacturer that previously boasted about having access to Nintendo’s upcoming Switch successor, is now walking back the legitimacy of its own Switch 2 mock-ups, Automaton West reports.

During a Jan. 10 interview with Japanese gaming site Game*Spark at the ongoing Consumer Electronics Show (CES), a Genki representative admitted no one at the company has actually seen the Switch 2 yet. The dimensions of the physical replica they were showing off at CES 2025 and the digital render on its website were merely based on other leaks currently proliferating through the industry.

This confession comes hours after Nintendo shared a statement with CNET Japan saying it hadn’t given Genki early access to any upcoming hardware.

The last few weeks have been a whirlwind of second- and third-hand information about what the Switch 2 will look like and what it will be able to do. And while Genki may have been stretching the truth about the breadth of its access, that doesn’t necessarily mean the facts they were working with were total bullshit.

Here’s a leak for you: Switch 2 is real and Nintendo will probably announce it soon. Until then, let’s be a little more selective with the kind of info we give the time of day, because the cottage industry of video game insiders will always be looking for the next vein of clout to mine for breathless social media posts and YouTube thumbnails.
