Looking to learn how to get the Rod of the Depths? Abbreviated to RotD, this path is one of Fisch’s greatest challenges. Requiring a ton of money, lots of luck, and a death-defying dive, it takes serious effort.
Down below, we’ll walk you through obtaining the elusive Fisch rod, making it just a smidge easier to add its powerful bonuses to your collection in time for the next update.
How to get the Rod of the Depths in Fisch
Obtaining the Rod of the Depths requires the following:
- A complete Vertigo Bestiary
- Plus access to The Depths
- A Hexed Enchant Relic
- An Abyssal Enchant Relic
- Advanced Diving gear
- Or Diving Gear and Flippers
- 750,000C$
How to grind cash for the Rod of the Depths
If you’re struggling to amass the lofty 750,000C$ needed for the Rod of the Depths, we really suggest grinding around its home—The Depths.
With a Trident Rod enchanted with Mutation, we found ourselves making around 40,000C$ every 10-20 minutes. With a Mutation Surge in effect, this climbed to an average of 50,000C$.
We managed to get the cash needed by grinding for an hour or two over a 2-3 days. We may have accidentally blown 100,000C$ on Bait Crates somehow.
How to get the Hexed and Abyssal Enchant Relics for the Rod of the Depths
You can get the necessary mutated Enchant Relics for the Rod of the Depths in a few different ways.
- Hexed Relic – Appraising an Enchant Relic
- Abyssal Relic – Appraising an Enchant Relic or obtaining one with an Abyssal-enchanted rod
As Enchant Relics are seemingly easier to fish up in the Depths, you can get the Abyssal Enchant Relic by using any rod with the Abyssal Enchant if you happen to have one.
The Hexed Relic, on the other hand, can only be obtained by having an Enchant Relic appraised.
Otherwise, you can attempt to roll for one with the Appraisal NPC while aiming for the Hexed Relic, too.
Either way, you’ll want to attempt the Appraisal process while your server is under a Mutation Surge. At 450C$ per roll, we spent around 20,000C$ to get both the Hexed Enchant Relic and Abyssal Enchant Relic during such a time.
Given you could spend 11,000C$ per Enchant Relic while rolling for an Abyssal rod, the 20,000C$ total we spent rolling two Enchant Relics for free from the Depths ultimately cost us less than buying two Relics from Merlin.
Of course, with any roll mechanic, your mileage will vary. This is just our example. Maybe we got very lucky.
How to get to the Rod of the Depths
Once you have your 750,000C$, a completed Vertigo bestiary, and an open door to The Depths, you’re nearly ready to swim through the dark caverns of the Depths to retrieve your Rod of the Depths.
To make the journey, though, you might need to upgrade your Diving Gear. On its own, the regular Diving Gear won’t last long enough. Even with a perfect route, you’ll drown right before the final ascent to the Rod of the Depths chamber.
So, you have two options. We’ve tested both. Either purchase the Flippers from the Desolate Pocket and wear them with your regular Diving Gear or, if you’re not confident in making the journey with around 25% of your oxygen remaining, grab the Advanced Diving Gear for 15,000C$.
If you want to minimize risk if you get lost, spend a little extra for the Advanced Diving Gear and the Super Flippers for 45,000C$ total.
To completely remove it, the Advanced Diving Gear and the Tidebreaker will see you zip to the Rod of the Depths with nearly a full tank remaining.
Here’s a breakdown of what will get you through the maze:
- Diving Gear – No
- Flippers and Diving Gear – Yes
- Advanced Diving Gear – Yes
- Flippers and Advanced Diving Gear – Yes
- Advanced Diving Gear and Super Flippers – Yes
- Diving Gear and Tidebreaker – Yes
- Advanced Diving Gear and Tidebreaker – Yes
Once you’re ready, swim up the reverse waterfall. Pop out onto the ledge on the left at the top and walk around to find the Hexed Enchant altar. Equip your Hexed Enchant Relic and hold the interact button at the altar to insert it.
Drop back and and head to the area behind the Merchant and Angler. You should spot a similar altar her just beyond the hatch in the floor. Insert the Abyssal Enchant Relic here.
With both inserted, the hatch will open. Equip your appropriate Diving Gear and head in.
We suggest following along with the above video from the official Fisch Wiki YouTube channel. It’s the most concise. We’re working on a map graphic you can follow.
What’s the best Enchant for Rod of the Depths?
With the Rod of the Depths now in your possession, it’s time to enchant it.
By the time we got our Rod of the Depths by farming cash around the Depths, we’d fished up 16 Enchant Relics. After Appraising two to open the door to the Depths Maze, that left us with 14 Enchant Relics left to roll for a good enchant without spending a penny.
Simply put, if you need more Enchant Relics, just grind them from the Depths. You’ll need the money anyway.
Once you feel you have enough, head to the Keepers Altar at night.
The best Enchants for the Rod of the Depths depends on your circumstance and mission.
Best RotD enchant for Bestiary completion
If you’re aiming to complete every Bestiary, Wormhole is always the best. It means you can fish up any fish regardless of server event or season. It won’t find limited-time Fisch like the Turkey, but everything else (including the Megalodon) is fair game—and the rod’s little ghost can find them, too.
Best RotD enchant for XP grinding
If you next task is grinding levels for the No Life Rod or the crafted rods, Insigt/Clever is your best bet. Its high luck and speed stats make farming for Captain’s Goldfish a breeze. The ghost won’t gain the XP bonus, but you’ll get the base Captain’s Goldfish rate if it reels in one of its own.
Best RotD enchant for making money
If you’re focused on making money for collecting other rods and equipment, Abyssal is the one to go for.
Is the Rod of the Depths worth it?
While rod crafting has muddied the waters slightly, the Rod of the Depths is still absolutely worth the grind.
With exceptional lure speed, good resilience and control, and the ability to reel in a bonus fish, it’s a great all-rounder for pulling in rare fish with ease.
They may not be mutated without an enchant, which does give the considerably cheaper Trident Rod an edge in some scenarios, this is easily fixed with the Abyssal enchantment.
Even without pairing it with bait, the Rod of the Depths can make serious cash by reducing the risk of snapping your line, snagging rare fish more often, and potentially pulling in a second.
