Fisch Grand Reef – How to get all fish and how to get there

The Fisch Grand Reef update is here, bringing a brief taste of January’s main Fisch update with it. Here’s everything you need to know about it.

Largely focused on premium, limited-time goodies and a quest that’s to be implemented the following day, the main allure of the Grand Reef update is its new Bestiary.

How to get to the Grand Reef in Fisch

Holding the mythical-grade Grand Reef Guardian in Fisch.

The Grand Reef is positioned behind the Forsaken Shores and Roslit Island. You won’t see any signposts or map markers for this one until you’re more or less there.

Head toward the Northern Expedition entrance and turn right as you approach it to put Forsaken Shores and Roslit Island on your left and right respectively. Sail your boat between them and continue straight and you’ll soon spot a ??? marker appearing above the water.

There’s a chance loading this area in for the first time will cause a gameplay pause (or, in our case, a full-blown disconnect) but this should subside after the first instance.

How to complete the Grand Reef Bestiary

The completed Grand Reef Bestiary in Fisch.

While almost all of the 8 fish introduced in the Grand Reef update can be reeled in quickly with most mid-tier rods, you’ll want to use bait or low-luck rods to reel in the lesser-grade catches like Reef Minnow and Coral Chromis.

You won’t need to use Crab Cages at all. All you’ll get is rocks and driftwood that way. You can speed up bestiary completion considerably by using each fish’s unique preferred bait. They have no preference on time of day.

Here’s how best to complete the Grand Reef Bestiary in Fisch by casting your line off the main island:

  • Reef Minnow
    • Bait: Seaweed
  • Coral Guard
    • Bait: Flake
  • Coral Chromis
    • Bait: Shrimp
  • Reef Goby
    • Bait: Worm
  • Crystal Wrasse
    • Bait: Insect
  • Reef Parrotfish
    • Bait: Coral
  • Coral Emperor
    • Bait: Fish Head
  • Grand Reef Guardian
    • Bait: Truffle Worm

In the end, we caught all but 1 fish, the Reef Minnow, within around 20-30 minutes of starting, completing the Grand Reef bestiary in around half an hour.

We used the Heavenly Rod to reel in the Mythical and Legendary catches quickly, but pulled up even the Grand Reef Guardian within a single reel or two with both the Carbon Rod and Steady Rod, suggesting bait really is the best way forward to target low-rarity fish.

Complete the Bestiary and check it through the Bestiary page to unlock the Coral Reef bobber.

How to start and complete the Grand Reef quest in Fisch

The Grand Reef quest in Fisch kicks off the day after the update’s release. Check back at around 1PM GMT on January 5 to learn how to complete it and the rewards available for doing so.

With the Grand Reef having a stone door at the bottom, it’s safe to assume the Grand Reef questline will lead into the Atlantis update due for January 25.
