After launching in 2018 for Xbox One and PS4 with a 30 FPS cap, Far Cry 3 Classic Edition is finally getting 60 frames per second support in a new patch. It will be available on January 21st for PS5, PS5 Pro, and Xbox Series X/S. Whether those still on previous-gen consoles will receive the same benefit remains to be seen.

There’s more to come, though. Alongside Far Cry 3, Ubisoft also teased Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon and Far Cry Primal, receiving 60 FPS updates. The series’ official Twitter account went ahead and confirmed that they’re indeed happening, but it has yet to provide a release date for the latter two games’ patches. Far Cry 4 and Far Cry New Dawn were the last titles to receive a 60 FPS update for current-gen consoles.

Of course, other titles like Tom Clancy’s The Division have also benefited from the same. However, while its sequel is getting new content (not to mention The Division 3 at some unknown point), Far Cry has pretty much remained dormant since 2021’s Far Cry 6.

Rumors have circulated about the next mainline Far Cry, which allegedly offers a non-linear story. It was seemingly set to launch in Fall 2025 but faced delays and is now reportedly targeting 2026/2027. An extraction shooter spin-off is also apparently in the works.
