Dragon Age: The Veilguard was supposed to be this big, triumphant return for Bioware after a string of misfires – and it was, for our reviewer and plenty others – but that hasn’t exactly translated to major sales, at least in Europe.
That’s according to GamesIndustry.Biz head Chris Dring and the GSD data for October 2024 he reported over on Bluesky. While The Veilguard might’ve been at par with other big RPG’s for 2024 like Dragon’s Dogma 2 and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth in the UK, it drags 18% behind the former, and 21% behind the latter in sales in Europe.
Dring calls it a “relatively soft launch,” which isn’t likely the comeback EA or Bioware had in mind.
Elsewhere on the sales charts, Call Of Duty: Black Ops 6 sold 26% more than Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 – if we’re talking sales only made on PlayStation devices.
Black Ops 6 being available on Xbox’s Game Pass service from day one has resulted in an expected hit towards actual sales of the game on the green platform. But if you’re only looking at PS5/PS4 sales, then it’s got a big lead over last year, and a 2% increase over Modern Warfare 2.
Dring points out though that if you look at Black Ops 6’s total sales compared to the previous Modern Warfare titles, it’s only a 5% bump compared to Modern Warfare 3, and 28% less than Modern Warfare 2’s launch back in 2022.
