BioWare has confirmed that it has given the boot to spiders in Dragon Age The Veilguard, which means there’s no need for an arachnophobia mode.
Dragon Age games are no stranger to featuring furry eight-legged enemies, but this time around they’ve been removed completely. Speaking on the Dragon Age subreddit following the reveal of The Veilguard’s accessibility features, one fan mentioned that there’s “no mention of arachnophobia filter.” In response, blackhairvioleteyes from BioWare stated, “No arachnophobia mode because there’s no spiders!”

Spiders have been a popular enemy in video games going back as far as I can remember, although back in the days of Resident Evil for example, we didn’t have the luxury of an arachnophobia mode. We just just had to introduce them to the business end of our shotgun and deal with them that way — that, or run away screaming, as I distantly remember doing when I was 13 playing it for the first time.
Dragon Age The Veilguard is due out on October 31, 2024 for PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S.
