Blizzard has fuelled rumours that it’s working on a new StarCraft video game after confirming the studio is hiring for an “upcoming open-world shooter game.”

The developer is looking to fill a number of positions for the project, including an Associate Design Director, Senior Designer, and Principle Designer. Sadly the job descriptions don’t go into any further detail, but there are multiple mentions of an “open-world shooter game.”

As previously reported, Jason Schreier mentioned in his latest book, Play Nice: The Rise, Fall, and Future of Blizzard Entertainment that a new StarCraft game was in production at the studio. The journalist discussed the book with IGN’s Podcast Unlocked, where Schreier was asked if the StarCraft game was still in development, to which he replied that “yes, that is a project that, as far as I Know, is in development, or at least as of the time I wrote this book was in development.”

Back in 2019 it was reported that a first-person StarCraft game had been shelved as Blizzard want to focus more effort on Diablo and Overwatch. According to Kotatku’s sources, the game was known as Project Ares and had been in development for over two years at the time of its cancellation.
