The release date of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 may not be a national holiday, but that won't stop some players from coming up with an excuse to stay home from work that day. That's the entire idea behind Activision's character, The Replacer. As played by Until Dawn's Peter Stormare (and occasionally other performers), The Replacer steps in when people need to play Call of Duty. This past weekend, one of the Replacers actually tagged in for the Los Angeles Rams' mascot during an NFL game.

There may have been some crossed wires there, as The Replacer with the Rampage mask was confronted by the actual Rampage who serves as the official LA Rams mascot. It was an easy mistake to make! Perhaps he was supposed to show up this Sunday, after the release of Black Ops 6. Then we'll see if Rampage is still feeling put out about his temporary replacement.

Since sports are one of the few examples of broadcast programming that still command a large audience, video game and movie companies are increasingly coming up with new ways to promote their projects during those events. As an example, random actors appeared during the MLB playoffs to advertise the release of Smile 2.

Stormare officially reprised his role as the original Replacer last month in a very funny ad where he served as a substitute fireman, a family man at dinner, and even the Pope. Unfortunately, since The Replacer isn't real, the rest of us will have to make other arrangements when Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 hits Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC on October 25. And yes, it's on Game Pass on day one. To help you get ready for the launch later this week, we've shared the length of Black Ops 6's campaign, whether the game has multiple endings, how the progression and prestige works, and why the Riot Shield won't be available.
