Black Myth Wukong DLC could be coming soon as dev teases new “surprises”

After Helldivers 2, Balatro, Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree, Hades 2, and so many more, the announcement of an upcoming Black Myth Wukong DLC would just about put the cap on gaming’s 2024. The fantasy RPG exploded on Steam back in August, attracting millions of players and rave reviews. Even now, some three months later, it’s still going strong on Valve’s platform – and there could be more on the way. Following previous reports that Black Myth Wukong may be getting an expansion, the game’s director shares a short but possibly telling tease about something new in the coming months.

Previously, a key shareholder in Black Myth Wukong developer Game Science suggested that the next instalment in the RPG would not be a full sequel, but something else, hinting that an expansion of some kind might be in the works. Now, Feng Ji, Game Science’s co-founder and CEO, and Black Myth Wukong’s director, teases “surprises” on the way in the imminent future.

“If you haven’t played Black Myth Wukong yet, now you have one more reason to give it a try,” Ji says, after accepting the Golden Joystick Award for Ultimate Game of the Year. “Of course, you might have already completed our game. That’s perfectly fine, too. Keep following us, and there might just be some surprises waiting for you later this year.”

While an expansion or DLC of some kind would be the most welcome addition, Ji could also be hinting at something else entirely. Black Myth Wukong is still exclusively available on PC, for example, so perhaps Ji’s comments are in reference to a possible console port.

As well as winning the Ultimate Game of the Year award, Black Myth Wukong still has the second-highest concurrent player count record in Steam history, attracting just over 2.4 million simultaneous players around launch – only PUBG has a higher count historically. Black Myth Wukong also still holds an ‘overwhelmingly positive’ rating on Valve’s storefront. Our own Black Myth Wukong review calls it a contender for 2024 Game of the Year.
