Best Anime Series of 2024

The year of 2024 is wrapping up, which means it is time to look back on this year in terms of anime TV series. This year was a decent one, mainly carried by some excellent series in the Fall 2024 season that make up the bulk of the best anime series of 2024.

For most of the year, though, the seasons struggled to get by with only a couple of standout shows here and there. Even some returning favorites like suffered from poor animation, writing, or quality. In terms of story, characters, action, writing, animation, and more, these are my picks for the best anime series of 2024 everyone should check out.

Best 2024 Anime Series: TsumaSho

While I did write this list in no particular order, the one exception is my pick for the overall best anime of the year: TsumaSho. Yes, the title is pseudo-rage bait. But the actual content is incredible. This is one of the strongest romance masterpieces in a long time. A husband and his daughter lose their wife/mom, but she comes back 10 years later as a reincarnated kid. It is heart-breaking, realistic, and deals with grief in some fantastic ways. But, yeah, it still could’ve made her an adult and it would’ve still worked.

Dan Da Dan

Dan Da Dan is one of the most surprising and intriguing series in a long time. It starts out as a pretty straightforward supernatural series with the two leads investigating aliens and ghosts. But there is so much more to the series beyond this. The witty dialogue, beautiful animation, and exploration of the relationship between the two leads make this one of the most impressive must-watches of the year.

Delicious in Dungeon

Don’t let the medieval fantasy vibe of this series deter you. The world-building in this series is fantastic and it might be the funniest anime of the year. The series follows a group of adventurers going through dungeons and using the materials they find to make some great food. This is a lighthearted show that stands out from 2024.

Senpai Is an Otokonoko

Anime series generally don’t do queer characters and the community well. If you want something a bit more loving and understanding, this is the one. The gut-wrenching exploration of a queer character unsure about their identity and attraction is far more realistic than I could have ever expected.

My Hero Academia Season 7

If there is one thing I am almost always certain of, it is My Hero Academia having yet another excellent season. Season 7 is the second-to-last season of the series and it wonderfully adapts a large part of the final arc of the series. Season 7 is up there as potentially the best season of the series yet. It doesn’t hold back with so many standout fights from Todoroki versus Dabi to Ochaco versus Toga and more. This season made a solid argument for MHA going down as one of the best anime of all time.
