If things had gone to plan for Ubisoft, Assassin’s Creed Shadows would be on the verge of releasing right now, but after Star Wars Outlaws bombed commercially, the company decided that it couldn’t afford two high-profile flops in a row, and decided to delay Assassin’s Creed’s long-awaited Japanese adventure to February in hopes of polishing the experience further.

And though you can never be a hundred percent confident in any date in game development, Ubisoft seems confident that the open world action RPG won’t be delayed any further. Speaking during the company’s most recent quarterly earnings call, Ubisoft’s chief corporate finance officer Frédérick Duguet stressed that Assassin’s Creed Shadows is on track to release in February, seeing as the game was already feature complete prior to its delay.

“As we mentioned a month ago, AC Shadows was feature complete, so it was close to being launched,” he said (transcription via VGC). “We wanted to make sure that the delivery of the experience is impeccable on day one, so that was the purpose of the decision.

“So we have a good visibility for the game to be delivered with a great experience by mid-February, and with great quality.”

Ubisoft has also revealed that the addition development time afforded for Assassin’s Creed Shadows will end up adding a total of $21.7 million to its development costs.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows is due out on February 14, 2025 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. It will be available day 1 on Steam, while Ubisoft has also cancelled its Season Pass plans, which in turn means its Collector’s Edition has also been repriced.
