34% Of Xbox Users Still Don't Use The 'Energy Saving' Option In 2024

You may or may not be aware that Xbox offers two different kinds of ways to turn off your console in 2024. The first of these is called "Shutdown (energy saving)", while the other is called "Sleep" and is more like a standby option.

As part of the Xbox 'Year in Review' feature that was unveiled yesterday, it's been revealed that 66% of "opted-in" console owners are using the energy saving setting right now, meaning 34% are sticking with the Sleep option. This is despite the proper shutdown feature using up to 20x less power according to Microsoft.

Why would this be? Well, Sleep does come with various benefits, such as the ability to instantly boot to the dashboard rather than waiting a few seconds for it to load up, and you can also wake up the console remotely - such as when you're lying in bed and you want to boot into Xbox Remote Play on your mobile device, for example.

If you're not making use of this though, it's definitely worth at least considering switching over to the Shutdown (energy saving) option. To do this, head to Settings, look for Power Options, and you can change it in there. You'll even find the ability to adjust your "Active Hours" so that the console remains on standby just at certain times of the day!
